Problem

  • Design a gripper finger with tactile sensing capabilities:
    • Design the gripper so that it may be used in heavy duty loading situations and hazardous and contaminated environments
    • Provide 3D sensory feedback to map surface contour for general inspection (identification and localization including position and orientation )
Solution: Metal Probe Array Digital Gripper 
  • A Patented 10x10 matrix probe array gripper finger which securely fixtures objects of any shape or contour and in any position or orientation:
    • Stainless steel probes slide in a metal bearing guide block
    • Probes retract and extend to contact the part surface
    • Probe travel is measured with miniature fiber optic digital encoders
    • 3D Pattern Recognition Software matches sensor image date with Library of Parts
